LDA’s mission is to create opportunities for success for all individuals affected by learning disabilities and to reduce the incidence of learning disabilities in future generations. LDA believes everyone can succeed at school, at work, in relationships, and in the community – if given the right opportunities and supports as needed. Please plan on joining us for our 55th Annual International Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on February 21-24, 2018, for a time of learning and discovering how we can advocate and work together to create new opportunities for children and adults with learning disabilities.

CCSD Parent Mentors: Understanding the IEP Process, Tuesday, 12/5 at 9:30 am

Your child’s education is a collaboration between the home and school, and as a parent, you play an important role in implementing an appropriate IEP for your child. Join us for an overview of the IEP process and learn how to work with educators to develop a successful educational plan for your child. 

Tuesday, December 5th at 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the Hawthorne Center.

CCSD Special Education Parent Mentors: Fostering Communication Skills, Tuesday, October 10 at 9:30 am

During this session, parents will learn how to use visual supports to increase communication exchanges for the child with low verbal skills and how to increase oral expression during literacy activities.  Facilitators will guide participants through the creation of a visuals folder to take home and use with their children; all needed materials will be provided.

College and Career Fair for Students with Disabilities, October 10 at 4:30 pm at Hillgrove High School

The Cobb County School District is sponsoring a transition fair for students exploring postsecondary programs leading to college and career readiness. The College and Career Fair for Students with Disabilities will be held Tuesday October 10th, from 4:30-7:00 pm at Hillgrove High School Cafeteria, located at 4165 Luther Ward Rd, Powder Springs, GA 30127.

Breakout sessions include Chattahoochee Technical College, Georgia Highlands College, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University Inclusive Post-Secondary Program, Georgia Tech Inclusive Post-Secondary Program, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, Cobb County Parent Mentors, Cobb & Douglas Community Service Board, Cave Spring vocational training center, and Warm Springs vocational training center. Vendors will include colleges and post-secondary programs throughout the state. Speakers will begin thirty minute sessions at 4:30 p.m. The Vendor Fair will open at 4:30 p.m. and continue until 7:00 p.m.
